Hi all!  This is the first reveal on the new blog!  Transitioning from Blogger with Fisherman’s Wife Furniture  to WordPress has been a little rough but every day I get a little more done and the kinks are getting worked out.  Slow and steady, right?  There is still much work to be done on the pages so please be patient.

Today is the master bedroom reveal!  We love how the new makeover has come together and how the room is a great mix of coastal and country.

Our master bedroom has already had one makeover.  It was done with the headboard and bedding we already owned and used in New Orleans and it was furnished with lots of hand me down furniture.  The only thing new we did in this room was the flooring (done with the rest of the home when we first moved), the ceiling fan and paint.  Everything else I just made work.  The kitchen renovation, getting moved in and trying to organize had priority over the master bedroom.

Here are a few before and afters from the first update.

For some reason I started calling this a mini makeover.  Then I thought about all the steps it took to transform the room and this time around was much more involved. Not so mini after all.  Here is what this makeover included:  I painted bedside tables and refinished a dresser.  See them here and here.  New bedding and curtains were purchased as well as a new headboard.  Our bathroom was being renovated at the same time and the small space had 4 doors.  We decided to do the barn style sliding doors for the entry to get rid of a door and they double as gorgeous wall decor for our room.  More on those later.  The sign over the bed I made for less than $20!  That post is coming soon.  The rest of the decor are things I had in boxes still from the move just waiting for a home or I stole from another room.  The wall over the dresser is still a work in progress.  I would also like to put natural shades over the two small windows next to the bed and have the curtains pulled to one side but that is getting picky and will probably never happen.

P.S.  A good camera and a wide angle lens are worth the money!

Our room has a great view of the water and the morning sun coming in that large window is my favorite.  The water movement reflects on the ceiling and all that light flows into the bathroom which only has one tiny window in the toilet area.

Our bedside tables stay fairly clean with just a few items on each.  I keep lotion and chap stick next to the bed at all times.  They are a must.  I also have an angel Brian made with mother when he was child with salvage wood from their ranch and a picture of Jesus.  For those of you that don’t know, my first name is my great grandmother’s maiden name (my mom’s maternal grandmother).  My mom’s cousin had a box that grandmother’s belongings and thought I should have it.  There were strange tickets, saved pages ripped out of various books and this picture of Jesus.  On the back, in what I am assuming is her handwriting, are the words “my strength”.  It looks much like my grandmother’s handwriting (and it may be my maw maw’s handwriting, I still haven’t asked her about it).  Brian’s side has the other angel made with his mother, a bible, and a catch all for his spare change, keys, etc.

The sign over our bed is an easy DIY project.  There will be a tutorial soon.  The quote is one of my favorites and instead of getting my Silhouette machine out, I decided to use my own handwriting.  Makes it a little more personal.  Sometimes I am a perfectionist and like having a stencil but in this case I wanted it in my handwriting.

The dresser has a mix of items that is constantly changing.  🙁  I’ll get it where I want it one day.  The window I have had for years, 15+, the mirror is an old dresser mirror not wanted with a dresser, and the pictures are of our engagement photos and my great grandfather’s shrimp boat.

This room was a bit of a struggle since I didn’t have a detailed design plan.  The bedding was pinned a long time ago and I knew it would be part of the mix but everything else fell into place as I went.  That’s not my usual design strategy.   The last makeover made the room feel tired and muted.  As soon as the paint color was up, I knew I didn’t love it.  This time around the paint made the room feel airy and light.  The mix of colors is just enough to pop on the gray wall without being over bearing.  Eventually, I would like to get something navy on the wall over the dresser and do the natural shades on the small windows.
