Hello all! Are any of you still out there?! It is hard to believe it has been 7 months since my last blog post. Then again, those of you who have been around for a while know that my blogging can be inconsistent …or in some cases, non existent. This is the longest I have gone without an update since I started blogging 4 years ago. Lots of changes have happened but most of it I couldn’t share at the time and some of it I didn’t think y’all would be interested. So here is the latest….
Back in January of 2015, I revealed our office makeover. I talked about us starting a business and not being ready to shout it out on the internet, I didn’t elaborate at the time. Here it is two years later and I never followed up and informed y’all on the details. Something we do keep up with is our Instagram account so if you follow us there, you know a little more about where I have been. The office makeover was prompted by us deciding to start a boat building business, Ultralight Boatworks, LLC. It is something Brian has always wanted to do and we have discussed since we got married. Sabine Skiffs has been a dream for years and we finally were able to make it happen!
The first year was full of learning, a few growing pains and prototypes. In early February 2016, we were invited to Florida to fish the Everglades with one of our first customers. AMAZING!
Things got really busy and over the summer and I fazed out doing furniture. There were a few projects for friends and I finished up some client projects but the majority of my summer was working for the boat company. I guess you could call me the office manager/administrative assistant/gopher/all around do whatever needs to be done girl. My other job is painting the boats. There is not enough time, or space, for me to do both boats (and the occasional motor) and furniture AND keep up with all the office responsibilities. At first I was scared about not doing furniture anymore. I thought I would miss the creativity and beauty that comes with it but I surprisingly don’t miss it at all. Painting boats and motors have become my new love. I still get to paint beautiful pieces and do creative work, my canvas is just a little different. Camo patterns have become my new challenge.
Brian wanted his gun to match our boat so I painted it as well.
If you live in the coastal Texas area, we have had a few mentions and features in Texas Saltwater Fishing Magazine and in The Gulf Coast Mariner. Both are great magazines you can pick up locally or view online. Be sure to check them out.
Skiffs have been the majority of my time this last year. We didn’t do any home updates in 2016 which is another reason things were a little quiet on here. I didn’t have much to share that didn’t pertain to a boat. But guess what?! We are in the planning stages for our guest bath makeover.
I can’t wait to get started! We plan on documenting the whole thing (lots of videos this time) and I will be sharing it all here. Over the last few weeks, we have made most of the decision on textiles and products but there are still a few things to work out. Hopefully we will be starting in the next month. It is the last room in our home that hasn’t been updated and the anticipation of being finished with the hard interior projects (there are still lots of small decor projects to be done) is beyond exciting. Once we finish the bathroom, we need to get our exterior deck railing and stairs updated. Originally, that was planned for last fall but time didn’t allow it and now that it is winter, I don’t want any outside projects. Y’all know I am a big baby when it comes to cold.
Other than the above, things have been pretty normal around here. Just a few highlights since my last post in June…
We went to Idaho in September for an Elk Hunt and to visit one of Brian’s brothers. It was absolutely gorgeous and we plan on making it an annual trip.
I had to have surgery on my hand in December after injuring it in October. There were some complications and I ended up having a second procedure in early January but things are looking good and surgery was a success.
That’s about all the excitement we have had other than lots of work, late nights and weekends filled with painting and paper work, tons of phone calls and all the other wonderful things that go with running a business. Please visit our business webpage, Sabine Skiffs. If you are interested in any of our boats, give us a call. Demo rides are available.
I’ll be posting regularly through out our guest bathroom update. First post will be before pictures and talking about the design plan! The goal is to have that posted by next week. Lets see if I can make that happen. 🙂
